Why president Bola Tinubu should Never release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu

An Opinion by Chukwu Sunday Abel Twitter|Sunabel73|

A political solution to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu continued "unjust" incarceration was suggested by justice Binta Nyako according to Mazi Kanu's lead counsel, Barrister Alloy Ejimakor.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu while being briefed about the security or rather insecurity situation in Igbo land, in his usual boldness laced with pride behind which is his hubris (a topic for another day) asked: " is there still insecurity in our land?"

Kanu among many others in his perceived bloated ego, sees himself as the source of security and insecurity in the Southeastern part of the Nigeria's federation. Kanu in his wit and might, believes that his continued detention after he was tricked into rendition in Kenya, is the bane of security in Igbo land and upon this assumption he goes to the negotiation table (political solution).

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu who is the supreme leader of the indigenous people of Biafra is strategic: his creating a false division among his followers: the IPOB Directorate led faction and Simon Ekpa faction is aimed at ensuring that the movement is not hijacked as well as that friendly rivalry cum competition exist between the factions. This, is the reason mazi Nnamdi Kanu has remained relevant today.

Thence, should president Bola Ahmed Tinubu release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the number one threat to Nigeria's unity.

To president Bola Ahmed Tinubu's political advisers and friends who would want him to continue to enjoy goodwill among the northern politicians also ordinary northerners, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must never be released. To them, freeing him is anti-north and a direct confrontation with the north; also undoing of former president Muhammedu Buhari's unenviable legacy.

Before he bowed out of the presidency, Mr. Buhari while gripping the powerful floor of the Aso Rock with his feet, had the tears of Oha Naeze Ndi Igbo overflowing his unperturbed foot. Late professor Ben Nwabueze vigorously, by his old lips though had the needed agility, profusely pleaded the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. He thereafter had his tears neglected and ignored by the sick-ears of Mr. Buhari. Indeed, the former president refused to hear even though he listened; a fault that was not his but the ear-infection which defiled the white-doctors' potent hands.

Now, "president Bola Ahmed Tinubu must not release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu", his advisers would say, the northern politicians and their gullible followers would also say.

Nevertheless, president Bola Ahmed Tinubu now has the opportunity to endear himself to the Ndi Igbo among whom he enjoys little goodwill. The case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu stands as a test of president Tinubu's wit and sense of judgement like the biblical Solomon.

Should he do what is right, just, and desired by freeing Mazi Nnamdi Kanu through a "political solution", he will move from a villain to a hero among the majority of the Ndi Igbo and justice-loving people globally.

Mazi Nnamdi Kanu has been over punished for his sins. We all sin.
